It is with great sadness that SGK announces that long-time firm member, Henry C. Herchenroether, Jr., passed away on December 17, 2019. Henry was the father of SGK attorney Peter Y. Herchenroether and they practiced together until Henry’s retirement. Henry was one of the most respected attorneys of the firm and in the legal community. He was a long-time partner of Alter, Wright & Barron (one of the firms that merged to form Sherrard, German & Kelly, P.C. in 1990). Henry was born in 1920 and was a graduate Westminster College in 1942 and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1949 (after military service as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WWII). Henry was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1950. He was a member of the firm’s Estate and Trusts Services Group and his practice included personal taxation, estate planning and estate administration. He was an extremely well-respected and trusted member of the firm and of many charitable and educational organizations. He was a long-time Board Member and former Chair of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, a member and former Chair of the Alumni Council of Westminster College, a Trustee of the Union Dale Cemetery, an elder, Clerk of Session and co-chair of the building committee of the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, a former Mayor of Ben Avon Borough and a Life Member of the Advisory Board for the Greater Pittsburgh Salvation Army. Henry was an extremely kind, sharped-minded and sharp-witted member of the firm and a true gentleman. Those of us with the firm who knew and practiced with him are fortunate to have had the privilege and we will miss him dearly.
